An Interview with Stacy!!
1. You are known as a positive and constructive personality in general – how hard has it been to stay motivated in the ever changing music industry for the past 20 years?
Well im true to my self and the music i always make so even though the industry changes here and there i still stay the same way and keep doing my same style with new ideas..
2. So apparently you’re from the two tape player mixing school? How did your journey from dual tape deck mixing to today’s almost entirely digital world affect your perception of the art of mixing? Do you miss the simplicity of old school equipment? Thats a great question, i notice alot of people use the computer for mixing and in a sense its easyer but to me, i love the old feel because its more hands on, kind of like production, i still use all hardware in the studio no computers at all..
3. What was the defining moment that propelled you from the Chicago stage to the world stage? My Production, there are tons and tons of great dj's in the world and chicago but what makes u ur own is ur production and thats what propelled me to world wide fame in Dance Music
4. What do you do when you aren’t producing or playing? I love to spend time with family and play sports to keep me fit..
5. If you had to go to a desert island and live there for 40 years, what tracks or music would you bring along? Wow. I must say there would be alot of music with me, from alot of House Music, Jazz, Gospal.. My bag will be full of anything DJ Spen, Louie Vega, Terry Hunter, Johnick and of course Stacy Kidd!!
6. What artists outside of house music would you say influenced you heavily from a musical standpoint? Stevie Wonder was my all time influence, he made me want to be a producer to make music like he do..
7. Given Chicago’s urban roots why did you gravitate towards house music as opposed to Hip hop? Well i started out doing djing hip hop and back in the day parties wasnt just 1 style, we use to mix it all up play a hour of Hip Hop, then a hour of House, and few slow songs, some reggae and so on, But house always was the main music that grabbed me more then others..
8. Now that you are successful, how did manage to survive economically before you became well known? A lot of artists are struggling given the recession – do you have any tips for them? Well the recession didnt bother me much because i have my hands in so manythings, from Productions, Remixes, Events, My Own Production company and more, so my best tip is to just make sure u stay focus and keep busy with what u do, because one things about this business if stay fresh and not fade off u will always have work.. Music will never die!!!
9. You are known for very disco sampled groovy tracks. How do you see that style working with the minimal/electro style that is currently in vogue? The beauty of it is for me is that i doint see it working with minimal/electro on my level.. I mean those styles are much bigger now but just because it is dont change what i like, and no matter what new style comes out, if im not into it i will keep doing what i like, If its Disco Samples, Deep, Jazzy, Soulful or Gospal House i love all of that!!..

Representing the label for this unique night in Paris is Jean De Looz (Beverly Chills) and Aaron Schumm bringing their patented sound inspired from the greatest cities of the American electronic music scene – Chicago, San Francisco, and New York
Having starting their house music voyage 10 years ago, the two have a long history of unforgettable evenings and an intimate knowledge of the jacking sound of Chicago house, and its smooth west coast (San Fran) derivations. From the launch of Pacha NYC to nights at the legendary Smart Bar in Chicago, they have shared the decks with some of the international DJ circuit’s most legendary names: Dj Heather, Johnny Fiasco, Dmitri de Paris, Troydon, JT Donaldson, Dizzy, Justin Martin, Onionz and Joeski to name a few.
Infused in their music is a strong influence of house music’s origins – moving basslines, complex rhythms, and a musical refinement that instills a permanent smile on your face and that stirs your body from its deepest core. With influences from Miguel Migs, Derrick Carter, Carl Cox, DJ Heather et Doc Martin, Jean and Aaron rock the dancefloor with a distinct savoir faire.

A quick chat with Mr. Fiasco...
1. Where do you see house music evolving to these days? It seems that the golden era has waned – where do you see the music continuing to flourish?
It does seem like the evolution of electronic music has gotten lost a bit. I think the reasons are many; greed in file-sharing, the overflow of product, too many cooks in the kitchen? While the rest of the world has probably endured more recognition overall, I think the USA has historically fallen behind the times. I think everyone else is doing ok. The current trend has become an 'electronic' sound, conventional and organic is on hold for now. But then again what comes around goes around. It's just a cycle.
2. What's kept you motivated throughout the past 20 years to keep producing and DJing?
Two key elements keep me in the game. Making music and Dj'ing has fueled the fire for two decades. I don't think I could have one without the other... it's a serious pair!
3. What are your latest projects that are really keeping you motivated?
It's not about the 'project' it's about the passion. I've never had a closed mind about making music. It's going to push me places I've never been. That's pretty exciting.
4. What do you do when you aren’t producing or playing?
Spending time with my kiddies! That is the biggest love and challenge and I love every minute of it. I do admit to spending too much time in the studio (in the actual studio or on the couch working on samples banks, programing or whatever) it's highly time consuming.
5. If you had to go to a desert island and live there for 40 years, what tracks would you bring along?
Not a dam thing... the ocean provides all the musical peace I need. No outlets needed. But the last charge on my laptop would contain some James Brown, Enya, The Police, Stevie Wonder and around 4k other various toons!
6. What artists outside of house music would you say influenced you heavily from a musical standpoint?
As a kid it was Elvis, Jan and Dean, The Jacksons and Stevie Wonder, in high school I was a huge rock fanatic, so I was loving Randy Rhodes, Ozzy, Led Zepplin, The Scorpions.... FREEBIRD!
7. What is your production rig? Any wisdom for aspiring producers?
I produce everything in Logic 8, I have a decent size studio with lots of toys analog and digital but the console will stay analog for a long time. The best advice I can give anyone is spend time picking your speakers. Your 'room' will also be a speaker, you need to understand that you will have to really understand that it does take time to really get a hold of the room versus speakers theory. I did spend more time on the actual speaker choice rather than dealing with how the room affects the sound and mix. It doesn't matter how much crap you spent on your gear. What matters most is understanding what your momma gave you...your ears! Second, get more than one pair-brand of speakers. I use four different pairs. it helps a great deal, each set gives me a certain audible limit. I would never mix on one set of of monitors again!
8. What do you listen to when you aren’t in the studio?
Kids Bop 1 thru 16? My daughter has brought me in closer to pop music these days so look out! I do have a very mellow selection for long flights and I swear by my noise canceling headphones.

LOFT 6.12.2009 at Sullivan Room 1 Year ANNIVERSARY!
Friends,
It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we invite you to come celebrate the 1 year anniversary of our LOFT party and my 29th birthday on Friday June 12th, 2009 at the Sullivan Room. As you know very well, LOFT is one of the only parties left in the city that prides itself on focusing on the groovy, fun, and jacking side of house music…and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
To make things even better, we have a delectable treat planned for this very special evening. Joining our label residents for an exclusive Friday night sonic excursion is none other than the legendary Chicago-based Johnny Fiasco. One of the founding fathers of house music, Fiasco has been a powerfully influential presence in the scene since the very beginnings of the house music movement– and even though we have been playing for 10 years and producing for the last 4, our accomplishments pale in comparison to the deep love for house music that he exudes in all of his work.
Johnny really needs no introduction. A house music legend, he has inspired DJ’s all over the world through his countless rock-solid, innovative DJ sets and productions. But as they say…
Legends are made of dreams… In Johnny Fiasco’s case, he is a legend whose ever-evolving house music insight promises
to be enduring—and for many,
that’s a dream come true.
The Chicago-born native was fortunate to have the Windy City as a backdrop at a fantastically seminal time for house music in the late ‘80s. Since then the pioneering Fiasco continues to DJ, produce and remix his one true love—house. “My category is house music. If someone asks me what I play: ‘It is house.’ It’s techy, it’s hard, it’s disco, it’s vocally, and it’s all of the above, really. The spectrum is pretty wide and that’s why I am so in love with house music.” Fiasco (born Juan Lopez) established his career as a DJ in Chicago, playing at Smart Bar alongside future all-stars like Mark Farina, and Derrick Carter
Today, Fiasco co-owns Viva! Recordings, is an impressive producer/remixer and logs countless frequent-flyer miles spinning at clubs and special events globally – including just about every major city in America. Remarkably, Fiasco’s vast remix catalogue includes pop icons such as Gloria Estefan, KD Lang and Donna Blakely. In 2003, one of his remixes was a #1 Billboard® charttopping dance floor rework of Justin Timberlake’s smash single “Cry Me A River.” Without a doubt a Fiasco record can always be found in record crates of DJs worldwide. Aside from his tour de force, the masterful and accomplished Fiasco continually reinvents himself through his timeless house music creations. Check out his discography here; a house music stalwart never rests!

We are truly honored to have him with us for our 1 year anniversary of LOFT and my 29th birthday. We sincerely hope you can join us in our celebration.
